Cakes Needed!

Two Cornish sisters are planning an event in aid of Cornwall Hospice Care, and are looking for WI members who may be able to help.

Carrie Preston and Sarah Woodside hold Cornwall Hospice Care close to their hearts. Their mother was a resident in one of their hospices before she passed away last December. At just 54, she left behind Carrie and Sarah, as well as their younger brother just a few short weeks prior to his 18th birthday.

Hospice care does not receive the funding it so desperately needs. The sisters hope that by raising funds we can help another family going through the cruel tragedy of losing a loved one. Equally they hope that, by raising money, the charity can keep offering care to those in desperate need. The Hospices now only have the staff to look after eight people even though they have doubled the number of beds they have. The funding is simply not there to allow them to fill those beds with people who desperately need them.

So where does the WI come in? Carrie and Sarah are running a coffee and cake day on Sunday 22nd October and are running a raffle alongside this event trying to raise as much money as possible. Due to the increasing popularity of the event they are worried that they might not be able to make enough cakes! They are cheekily wondering if any WI members would be able to donate homemade cakes. Obviously, everyone is welcome to attend too!

The event will be held at St John’s Church Hall on Lemon Street in Truro on Sunday 22nd October from 10:30am until 5pm.

If you are able to help with donating a cake, please contact Carrie on 01872 241852 or by mobile on 07824193412.

Thank you in advance!

  1. ‘Cheekily wondering’, nothing cheeky about this request. The WI community is about community …. supporting our community and it’s facilities. Cornwall Hospice Care is a great cause which sadly touches the lives of many. I wish them well.
