Betjeman Belles: A New WI in Wadebridge!

Please join us in welcoming the Betjeman Belles to our Cornish WI family!

The group was officially formed on Wednesday 27th May and followed some earlier exploratory meetings with Wadebridge women facilitated by Kathy Reed, CFWI Adviser.

Local women attending this first official meeting in Wadebridge decided on meeting dates, times and a place to meet and voted on a name from a short-list of ideas. Six keen members have taken the lead on forming a Committee, which is there to listen to members, develop an interesting meeting and activities programme and ensure the smooth running of the WI. Betjeman Belles aims to complement other WIs in the surrounding area.

President Cheri Morrell-Davies welcomed those present including CFWI Chairman Margaret Johnson, introduced other Committee members and canvassed those present on ideas for future meetings, events, activities and fundraising. She also advised “The name of the group – Betjeman Belles – reflects a well known local person, the late Poet Laureate Sir John Betjeman – and the meeting venue, the John Betjeman Centre, a community venue and former railway station.” She added, “We look forward to developing this exciting venture for the women of Wadebridge.”

Betjeman Belles meet on the fourth Wednesday of the month at 7:30pm at the John Betjeman (Concern Wadebridge) Centre. The June meeting will hear about the work of FLEET. The July meeting is a tour of Haywood Cider Farm. The group welcomes new members, visitors and visiting WI members.

More information is available from the Betjeman Belles’s Facebook page or by email: betjemanbelles@gmail.com.

We look forward to hearing more about the Belles and their adventures!
