Get Involved in 2019!

Happy New Year from the Cornwall Federation of Women’s Institutes! What a year we have in store! It’s the Centenary of the CFWI and we’ll all be going non-stop from now until the end of the year!

Now that 2019 is here, it’s time to start thinking about your coming WI year. It’s often said that the WI is what you make it, but have you ever stopped to think what that actually means? It means that there are countless opportunities there for all of us to make the most of our membership. That might mean participating in WI and Federation events, or it might mean opening some other doors – doors that could lead to all sorts of exciting places!

Have you considered serving on your WI’s committee? Why not give it a go? You’ll learn some new skills, and your existing talents and abilities will be put to great use. Being a committee member is a fantastic opportunity to make your mark on your WI.

Or what about joining one of our Federation sub-committees? Have a look here to see what they’re all about. If you think you might be interested, just get in touch with the office and see if you can sit in on a sub-committee meeting. No pressure – just observe and see if you like it!

Have you thought about being a WI Adviser? It’s a great way to help and support WIs and to give a bit back. You’ll learn more than you ever thought there was to learn about the WI!

The Board of Trustees is also looking for members. Would you like to join them? They’re a small, but friendly and hard-working group of women who like a good laugh while getting stuck in together as a team. If you don’t think being a Trustee is for you, what about being a Board Helper? We can always make room for people who’d like to help out at events – selling raffle tickets, washing up, etc.

If you’re interested in any of the above opportunities, just contact the office – (01872) 272843 or cfwi@btconnect.com.

Last but not least, don’t forget that your 2019 subs are due this month, January. The new yearly subs are £42. Make sure you take along your payment to your WI’s January meeting. If you’re very lucky, your WI might be set up to allow for BACS payments, so you can do it from the comfort of your own home. If you won’t be at your WI’s January meeting, make sure you post a cheque to your WI Treasurer, or to whomever is in charge of collecting subs in your WI.
