Hayle WI Keeps on Going!

The certificate presented to Hayle WI for their beautiful flower bed on Penpol Terrace.

Unfortunately, Hayle WI only managed to hold two meetings this year before the Covid restrictions brought a sudden halt to their planned meetings and outings.

However, two activities have been able to continue:

The walking group has continued to enjoy their monthly local strolls especially in the summer months, including an evening walk away from the crowds. This has proved beneficial not only for physical health but also for mental wellbeing. Thank you to Carol Curnow for organizing these walks.

The gardening group led by Julia Jackson has continued to be busy throughout the year and many locals and visitors alike have complimented the women on having such a colourful flower bed. Even in winter, the bed is still a riot of colour and spring bulbs are starting to peek through the soil.

The members were delighted to be awarded a certificate from the Royal Horticultural Society/ South West Hayle in Bloom in recognition of the contribution the flower bed has made to the community of Hayle in providing an appreciation of nature.

Three Hayle WI members have also been busy adopting a flower bed on King George’s Walk. For Remembrance Day the bed was adorned with poppies and, for Christmas, was decorated with colourful baubles and even a naughty elf hiding in the tree, much to the delight of young passers-by.

Until meetings can resume in person, Hayle WI members will rely on communication by email or snail mail for those who do not have access to the internet, and all committee meetings will be on Zoom. Check Hayle WI’s Facebook page for further updates.

  1. Congratulations Hayle WI.
Keeping our groups interested, connected and involved has been a challenge since March. However it is well worth the effort and leap into using technology. Zoom has been a wonderful way to pull all these pieces together.
    Best wishes from Boscastle WI
