Mawnan WI Book Club (MBC) was launched a month ago in response to the request from members to set up a book club. Eleven avid readers attended the inaugural meeting on Zoom – probably the first time that most of the members had been in a virtual book club.
They began by talking about what they have been reading this year, and then progressed to the selected book, When No One is Watching by Alyssa Cole. This had been reviewed in WI Life and the members decided that they would choose books from those recommended in our national magazine.
The discussion was based on a few questions about the title, the way the book was written, the characters and anything in the plot that had come as a surprise. After a lively hour, the women concluded that the book was certainly not what they had expected. Although it was well-written and the historical background interesting, the consensus was that, by the end, their credulity was fully stretched!
