1930s

Mrs Edith Martin (1872-1950) served as Federation President from 1931-36 and 1943-44.

This photograph is not dated, but is believed to have been taken while she was Federation President.

Mrs Martin was also the first Hon Sec of the Federation Executive Committee, and was the first Cornish Voluntary County Organiser (VCO). VCOs were the precursors to today’s WI Advisers.

In 1929, Mrs Martin compiled a cookery book for the Cornwall Federation entitled Cornish Recipes. She also served on the NFWI Executive Committee from 1927-1943 and was a member of the NFWI Agriculture Sub-committee.
