Baker Cup Competition

The Baker Cup Competition, organised by the Environment & Public Affairs Sub-Committee, takes place every two years and is open to all WIs in Cornwall.

The Baker Cup subject for 2026 is Slavery in Cornwall Then and Now

The cruelty and exploitation, especially of African nations, and the luxury and wealth gained by slave masters has been continually exposed over the years.
Could this be true of Cornwall, then and even now? Researching this subject could be very enlightening and motivating in relation to a recent national WI resolution on modern slavery.
The study may be presented in essay or ‘scrapbook’ form. Presentations should include illustrations, tables, maps, etc., as appropriate to the topic, as well as acknowledgements, references and
sources. The length of the submission should be 4,000-6,000 words, and the study must be the work of at least four WI members. Entries can be submitted electronically

Judging will be anonymous, therefore the name of the WI and the names of the participants must be provided separately or on a removable page.

Winners will be announced at the Annual Council Meeting in 2026, where the winning entry will be displayed.

Closing Date for Entry Application: Thursday 26 February 2026
Final Submission Date for Entries: Thursday 28 May 2026
Entry Cost: £8 per WI
