The Allsop Cup Competition

The Allsop Cup Competition is an environmental study, organised by the Environment & Public Affairs Sub-committee, which takes place every five years and runs for a full year. WI members working as a group can present their study results in all sorts of imaginative ways – from written reports including illustrations, charts and photographs; to craft items; to digital media. The sky is the limit. Recently the competition involved studying Cornish hedges over the course of a year, and working on ‘Operation Hedgehog’. You can read more about ‘Operation Hedgehog’ here.

The 2025 topic is ‘Go Wild for Wildlife’, based on the concern that nature is seriously declining across the UK, a country that is already one of the most nature-depleted in the world.
The Natural England ‘State of Nature’ reports data showing that, since 1970, UK species have declined by about 19% on average, and nearly 1 in 6 species are now threatened with extinction.
A minimum of four (4) members must be involved in the study, which can be in your own gardens, in your local community or in partnership with other organisations. At the end of the year you can present your study results in all sorts of imaginative ways: written reports including illustrations, charts and photographs; craft items; or digital media.

The competition will run from 1 January–31 March 2026. The full entry is due at Chy Noweth by Tuesday 31 March 2026. Cornwall Wildlife Trust will judge the entries and the winner will be announced on our website and in County News. Find out more here.
