If you live anywhere near Hayle, you may have seen Hayle WI’s contribution to ‘Hayle in Bloom’. She’s Flora the Suffragette and she’s magnificent! Pay her a visit next time you’re in the area!
The village of Ladock held an amazing Flower Festival in the local church earlier this month to commemorate the end of World War I in flowers, words and music. Individual WI members produced beautiful floral displays and fascinating research on a variety of local and national War themes but Ladock WI as a whole submitted an item on the Suffragettes. This was of course inspired by seeing the information on Suffragettes on the CFWI website!
It is 100 years since women won the right to vote. The advent of WWI changed women’s place in society by necessity – they joined the workforce! In this way the Suffragettes were helped in their campaign, a movement which is one of the most powerful there has ever been. Today, in 2018, the Suffragettes’ fight continues to inspire people to strive against inequality. Inspiring Women indeed!
