The Hall was crowded for Porthleven WI’s September meeting and members were in for a treat as they listened to local silversmith Abigail Brown explaining how she works and showing us the beautiful things she creates.
After initially studying in Loughborough, Abigail has travelled the country, and the world, honing her craft and working with many other silversmiths, sharing and learning. She reckons you would need three lifetimes to completely learn all there is to learn about silversmithing. She has had the honour of being made a Freeman of the Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths and a Freeman of the City of London.
Some of Abigails work was on show and members had the chance to examine these longingly!
A ‘Girls Night Out’ to the Meadery and Newlyn Filmhouse was planned for October. Members are also looking forward to their WI’s birthday lunch at Trevaskis later this month. The WI has been going for 94 years. New members are always welcome. The next meeting is on Wednesday 9th October.
