Sixty happy WI members were treated to a ‘Girls’ Day In’ at Chy Noweth recently. Organised by Activity and Leisure sub-committee, the day included a programme of five speakers covering a variety of topics.
In small groups, members heard Mr Penfold give advice on sensible footwear and foot care. Dawn Rowe encouraged everyone to exercise to keep healthy by using simple exercises that could be tried out at home. Claire Greenwood brought heaps of colourful scarves and used her amazing creative skills to show how to transform any outfit.
Finally, Trudy Ruane, from Made for Life Organics, talked about skin and skincare using organic materials. Samples are being sent to those who attended the day, but the company would love to offer all Cornwall members a Discount Code of WI17 to get a 10% discount at check out.
Many ladies expressed an interest in visiting the company and to see the lab. This can be arranged by sending an email to Trudy Ruane at trudy.ruane@madeforlifeorganics.com.
After lunch, members were given ‘Food for Thought’ by listening to Dot Rogers, Chairman of the Home Economics and Craft sub-committee. Dot talked about research into the correct nutrition for the older person to help keep our minds healthy. There was an opportunity to sample ready-made meals and to make comparisons with home-made food, producing interesting results, which were not always as expected.
Overall, it was a varied and very interesting day and one we hope to repeat in the future.
A big thank you to the speakers for their input, and to sub-committee members Marion Collins, Jane Dover and Margaret Lugg for working so hard all day. And let’s not forget thanks to Margaret Johnson and Penny Picton for the delicious cakes!
