An Early Christmas Fair from Mawnan WI

Christmas started early when Mawnan WI held its sixth Christmas Gift Fair last Saturday.

As visitors walked in to the decorated Memorial Hall, they were greeted by the sight of   the stalls festooned with seasonal lights and a fair sprinkling of Christmas jumpers. The event showcased the work of local artisans who were selling a wide variety of unique gifts including jewellery, pottery, willow Christmas decorations, glass lanterns, wooden bowls, prints, cards and sewn and knitted items. WI members had baked mince pies and cakes as well as making jams and pickles, and there were three homemade soups to choose from for lunch.

A big attraction was the extremely successful Tombola which had 100 bottles – they were all disguised in festive recyclable paper, but even so it was quite easy to spot the wine! A beautifully wrapped hamper, the star prize of the raffle, contained some delicious Christmas treats and also attracted the attention of many who were hoping to be lucky.

Mawnan WI will be hosting the Village Christmas Party on 13th December at 3pm. In between these events there will be an opportunity for members and villagers to make their own Christmas wreaths on Monday 2nd December at 1pm in the Memorial Hall.
