Band Together! Remember our Prickly Pals

At this time of year, please remember to check your bonfires for hedgehogs, and also start checking for other hazards. Prickles and Paws Hedgehog Rescue at Cubert (just outside Newquay) is treating more hedgehogs each year injured by litter and rubbish left in our countryside, villages and towns.

As part of the Band Together! campaign, people are asked to keep their eyes open for hairbands, elastic bands and any ‘loops’ that could be a hedgehog hazard. Let Prickles and Paws knows what you find and where (hello@pricklesandpaws.org or 07926 576 164).

Katy South of Prickles and Paws says, “Band Together! is just the start. There is so much more we can do to help our wildlife and to engage people with both the environment and with these captivating little creatures. Each year, hedgehogs are admitted to Prickles and Paws with injuries caused by litter – it is heartbreaking to see the hedgehogs suffering, and in some cases dying, from inuries which are completely preventable. As a community, we can work together to do something about this and to help spread the message.”

Prickles and Paws has teamed up with Clean Cornwall to produce a free resource pack for groups to learn about the risks and the simple things we can all do to look after our wildlife. The pack is available on the Clean Cornwall website.
