CFWI’s Birdwatching Walk on the Helston Boating Lake

Last week, a group of WI members from all over Cornwall was led on a birdwatching walk around HelstonBoating Lake by wildlife photographer David Chapman.

The mist cleared and the rain stopped so, armed with rain gear, warm clothing, and binoculars, the women began their morning. This was a perfect spot to look closely at many of the winter residents on the lake.

The walk then continued into the woods, which made it much more difficult to spot the woodland birds as the members had to rely on their listening skills as well as their eyes. They did, however, have some good sightings along the way thanks to David’s amazing identification skills.

The very satisfying bird count for the day added up to 25 species.

Thanks must go to David for being so generous with his time and for sharing his knowledge.
