Last month, we held our inaugural Literary Lunch in the beautiful surroundings of Budock Vean Hotel, in Mawnan Smith. This was a new venture for CFWI and we were pleased to welcome 73 members for a delicious lunch, followed by an informal chat with Sarah Pearse, an award winning author.
Sarah’s first book, The Sanatorium, was followed up by The Retreat, published in July 2022 and she is now busily writing her third book. Sarah was very engaging and gave us a fascinating insight into the complicated world of writing and getting a book published, not to mention negotiating television rights. The Sanitorium was a No. 1 Sunday Times and New York Times Top Ten Bestseller, and a Reese Witherspoon Book Club Pick. It has been translated into over 30 languages. We were so lucky to have Sarah come and speak to us!
The Literary Lunch proved to be a very popular event and so we will be arranging another one next year. As with any new initiative we welcome constructive feedback so that we can improve our events for the enjoyment of all. If you have idea, please send them to reception@cornwallwi.org.uk.
