Cornwall Connect: Keeping You Connected!

The CFWI Board of Trustees is thrilled to announce a new weekly series of free online classes, workshops and tutorials exclusively to Cornwall WI members to help keep us all connected during Covid-19: Connect Cornwall.

The weekly sessions will take place every Thursday and will cover a variety of topics including painting, cookery, pilates, singing, scrapbooking and meditation. You can see a full schedule of the sessions here, but don’t worry – we’ll be posting here on our website and on our CFWI Facebook page weekly to remind you about what’s on each week and how to connect and join in.

All sessions will be held either via Facebook Live or Zoom. If you think you might like to join in but don’t have a Facebook or Zoom account, now’s the time to join the digital age! Both are completely free and will open up a whole new world for you!

Artist and tutor Karen Bessell

The first session will be held this Thursday 7th May at 10am on Facebook Live. This will be a fun ‘Sip and Paint’ session with tutor Karen Bessell of UCreateArtAtHome. Karen will walk us through painting or drawing a beautiful Cornish tin mine. Karen lives in Brisbane, Australia, but is Cornish and was one of the founder members of Bodmin Gaolbirds WI! Her art studio in Brisbane is closed at the moment due to Covid-19, but she is happy to be able to offer this free online class for all WI members in Cornwall.

This will be a beginners’ level class, but is open to all. It will be a bit of fun and you will learn something too! And you’ll have a gorgeous piece of art to display at the end of it!

To join in Karen’s workshop, simply go to the UCreateArtAtHome Facebook page just before 10am on Thursday morning.

For this session, you will need:

  1. Something to create with – Paint and brushes (could be acrylic or watercolour) / or coloured pencils, pastels or felt pens.
  2. Something to create on – Paper, a canvas, a sketchbook, wallpaper, cardboard or wood. Whatever you have to hand!
  3. A cup of coffee or tea (is 10am a bit too early for wine?!) and, of course, something yummy to snack on.
  4. A sense of fun … mixed with a bit of patience.

While you’re following along with Karen on Facebook Live, you’ll be able to post questions to her as you go, and will also be able to chat online with other participants. Go on! Have a go!
