Blooming Brilliant: Flower Arranging Workshops Come up Roses
The CFWI Flowers and Gardens Sub-Committee held two very successful ‘Flower Arranging for Dummies’ workshops over the past week. Originally planned as a single workshop, the response from members was so overwhelming that a second date had to be scheduled!
A total of 40 members representing 14 WIs attended over the course of the week, learning some basic flower arranging skills from tutor Ali Menary of Cornwall Country Flowers in Mylor.
Ali led the group through the process of creating a beautiful arrangement using roses, chrysanthemums and assorted greenery. She explained to the members how to place flowers of different sizes and use filler flowers to make a shape that is pleasing to the eye. Along the way, she gave insight as to what floral art judges might be looking for in competition entries.
Fortified by homemade cake and biscuits, the ‘budding’ florists got to work and the results were outstanding. All the members went home with beautiful arrangements in stunning glass cube vases. Not only that, but they also took with them the knowledge and confidence to create more spectacular arrangements on their own at home. We do hope many of the workshop attendees will enter the floral art classes at this year’s Royal Cornwall Show!
