Free Trees for Communities: Apply Now!

Those of you who have been following the Plant Britain campaign on the BBC’s Countryfile, will know how important it is to get the nation planting trees!

The Woodland Trust wants to make sure everybody in the UK has the chance to plant a tree. So they are giving away hundreds of thousands of trees to schools and communities. Together, we’ll get millions more trees in the ground.

The UK needs millions more trees to reach its 2050 carbon net-zero target. By digging in, you’ll help bring us nearer this important goal.

At the end of last year you will recall that CFWI held a tree planting ceremony in Falmouth to celebrate the start of a big tree planting exercise that we initiated there.

The Trust has two delivery periods per year, one in March and the other in November. They are still taking applications now for trees to be delivered this March. WIs can apply.

Have a look now. There is a big choice of trees and shrubs, and you can order small or large packs depending on the space you have. Once you have found and agreed on a good site (which must be accessible to the public), and once you know that the local community is happy for you to go ahead, then the application is easy and the trees are free. The trees come as little whips (about 20cm high) with supports and protection included.

So why not go for it now, and make something really wonderful happen for your WI and community!
