Godolphin WI Goings-On

Julia Berry, Community Liaison Officer, at Godolphin WI’s September meeting

Godolphin WI’s meeting this month was all about crime prevention. The members welcomed Julia Berry, Community Liaison Officer for Helston and the surrounding area, to their meeting. She told the group all about scam callers and how to deal with them – politely or not (the choice is yours but we women of the WI are always polite!). She made everyone laugh but also made them aware of how serious scamming can be; be careful and don’t ever give out personal information over the phone to anyone.

On Tuesday 18 September, members of Godolphin WI joined in the Take a Town: Hayle event, organised by CFWI. They were met at the White Hart Hotel for coffee before being  joined by guide Trevor Smitheram who took the group to the Heritage Centre. There, they were regaled with tales about Hayle in times gone by. Despite the rain the members ventured out for a guided walk and talk with Trevor. He has so much knowledge of the area and its industrial past and provided interesting and humorous anecdotes. Hayle is no longer the thriving industrial area it once was with the loss of the tin and copper mines.

The group then returned to The White Hart Hotel for an excellent lunch. After lunch, they enjoyed a slide show of old industrial Hayle, with Trevor once again giving the members stories and information to keep them amused.

It was an educational day, but everyone had a wonderful time as well.
