Memories of the Coronation in 1953: I was 12 years old in 1953 and my dad bought a 9-inch black and white TV so that we could watch the Coronation. We were the only family with a TV and so all our neighbours (in Liverpool) were invited to come and watch with us. I remember my mum cooked a turkey (and it wasn’t even Christmas!) to feed us all.
My memories of the day then was that it was a very long and uncomfortable day because there were so many people in our lounge that I had to sit on the piano stool and the seat was made of moquette, like a rough carpet, and I was wearing my best dress and short socks…and had to behave myself!
