I have never met the Queen, but have a memory of the Proclamation of her Accession.
I was at school in 1952 and the only radio was in the assembly hall, so the Headmistress got us all there to listen to the Proclamation. She said, “She is a very young Queen and many of you may not live to hear the Proclamation of another Monarch.”
Well, at 88 I have made it.
But I was rather surprised at the length of the proceedings on television as, of course, in 1952 we just got the Proclamation and it was over in a few minutes, not best part of two hours.
