I never had the privilege of meeting the Queen, but I do have a fuzzy memory of her visiting my nursery school in Truro when I was 3 or 4 years old. I remember us all being herded outside and made to stand on the pavement as she walked past. If she had spoken to me, I’m sure I would have remembered that, but my abiding memory is of being jostled by my school friends and not wanting to miss seeing the Queen!
Then in 2013, when she visited Cornwall and was on her way to St Michael’s Mount, I cleverly positioned myself in a layby so I could see her car pass. If you use your imagination, you can see her large mauve hat in the back seat next to Prince Philip!
