Mawnan Memorial Hall was a buzz of creativity when Mawnan WI hosted their Get Creative Craft Day – one of 1,638 events held across the UK in the week beginning 11th May.
Get Creative started in 2015; it is an annual national celebration of everything creative designed to highlight the activities of community groups. Mawnan WI president, Sally Annan, said: “We were keen to be involved in promoting an opportunity for the community to come together and enjoy one another’s company whilst learning a new skill. We are very aware of the benefits that taking part can bring to individuals and we also wanted to showcase the creativity of our members.”
The day was divided into morning and afternoon sessions with three workshops available in each. Led by members of Mawnan WI and one close associate, those attending were encouraged to try their hand at something new. Choosing from flower arranging, card printing, creating a pair of earrings, using “found” objects to construct a garden mobile, sewing a wrist pin cushion and making 3D greeting cards, more than 50 women from the village and nearby experienced the satisfaction of producing something which they hadn’t done before and had fun being part of a creative group, making new friends and enjoying homemade cakes and biscuits.
The event was organised by a sub-committee led by Alison Brooksbank and was supported by Mawnan Parish Council and local County Councillor, John Bastin.
It was a great day- I loved printing cards and making the pin cushion. Thank you Mawnan WI for making us so welcome!
I attended these sessions and had a fabulous time… I learnt new skills and met some lovely new “friends”.
Thank you so much for running this wonderful day.
