Mermaids, Mylor and Flushing: ‘Green’ Momentum events

Mermaids, Mylor and Flushing WI, have kept up their ‘Green’ momentum with several events this autumn.
Firstly they held a second ‘Green Tabletop Eco Sale’ with stallholders from the local community groups selling preloved goods and also provided refreshments and a cake stall.
This had been delayed from earlier in the year due to problematic roadworks, and on the day the weather was again inclement, like the previous year, but nevertheless visitors still enjoyed browsing around the stalls for a bargain and the refreshments, especially sausage rolls!
Following this they also provided refreshments for the Mylor and Flushing ‘Going Green Fair’ organised by the local ‘Going Green’ group which is supported by volunteers from various groups working to make a positive environmental impact e.g Mylor Community Garden, Dark Skies, Surfers against Sewage, Sailors Creek, Working Woodlands, Bee experts etc. Apple pressing and electric bikes added to the enthusiastic stallholders who passed on lots of tips and information on easy ways we can all protect our environment, repair, reuse and recycle and it was very useful to hear about Mid-Cornwall Climate and Eco-Hub located in Truro where a friendly cup of coffee is on offer while you get help with lowering your own carbon footprint.
In October we welcomed back popular Arthur Roberts who inspired us with beautiful photos of stunning scenery and wildlife from his cruises along the Norwegian coast including the Northern Lights and our November meeting featured Matt Fox, Head Greenkeeper at Falmouth Golf Club, who described how he and his team manage the courses in an environmentally and bee friendly way wherever possible, giving plenty of advice to our members on caring for their own lawns.
The photo shows Arthur and his photographic cards.
