NFWI Huxley Cup Competition 2019

The Huxley Cup Competition is an annual Flower Arranging Competition run by NFWI and held this year in early July at the Kent County Show. We know there are a lot of very talented and very keen members in Cornwall, so we’d love to be able to send a competitor!

This year’s competition will be an imposed exhibit, where the exhibit theme will be provided to each entrant on the staging day with all materials, sundries and containers. No additional flowers, foliage or accessories will be permitted. Competitors can use as much or as little of the supplied materials as they see fit; it is not required to use all items provided. All entrants will each have identical materials to work with and the same amount of staging time. Only working tools may be brought e.g. scissors, secateurs, knife. All entries must be in accordance with the NAFAS Competitions Manual, 3rd Edition 2015.

Each Federation will be permitted to send only one entrant. If you think you’d like to try your luck, please contact the office at Chy Noweth. The deadline to apply to CFWI is Thursday 2nd May 2019.

Competitors will need to be available at the Kent County Show in Maidstone on Thursday 4 July, which is the staging day, and are not permitted to remove their exhibits until Sunday 7 July.

The Cup (which is actually a bowl) was presented to the NFWI by Mrs LK Huxley, OBE in 1938. Mrs Huxley was from Berkshire and was elected to NFWI Executive Committee in 1926 when she was only in her 20s. She was NFWI Honorary Treasurer from 1930 to 1936. She was keen that the winning federation should use the bowl at county events for displaying flowers and not merely show it.
