No More Violence against Girls and Women

This year, 25 November marks the beginning of the 16 Days of Activism, an annual international campaign that kicks off on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, and runs until 10 December, Human Rights Day.

We are asking all the WIs in Cornwall to consider holding a fundraising coffee morning during those 16 days, to raise support and money for an organisation that works with abused women. There are three weekends during the 16 days, so you have some perfect opportunities to hold a successful coffee morning! We know some of you already support your local Women’s Aid centres or other local refuges.

Organisations you may want to support are West Cornwall Women’s Aid, East Cornwall Women’s Refuge, The Women’s Centre Cornwall or Cornwall Refuge Trust.

If you’re not holding your own coffee morning, please go along to support another WI that is organising an event.

After hearing a guest speaker from West Cornwall Women’s Aid at their October meeting, Gulval WI will be holding a coffee morning in aid of that organisation on Saturday 2 December at 10am at Gulval Village Hall.

Prior to the 16 Days, St Just in Penwith WI will be holding a fundraising cafe on Saturday 4 November at St Just WI Hall from 9.30am until 12.30pm.

Keep an eye on social media leading up to the 16 Days to find out other ways to get involved. If you’re in the Penzance area, there is a ‘Take Back the Night’ march and vigil planned for Wednesday 29 November. CFWI is very proud to be involved in this event and we would love to see a big turnout from local WI members.

If your WI plans to take part in any activity this year for the 16 Days, we’d love to hear from you! Please email your story and photographs to cfwi.publications@gmail.com.
