South Hill WI Visits Ambrosia Factory

South Hill WI  members recently paid a visit to their local food factory, Ambrosia, which is just over the border in Devon. They were given a talk on the history of Ambrosia on this site, how the products were made and then taken on a factory tour by Tim and Janine.

Before the tour started, everyone had to kit up correctly, firstly with steel toecap shoes, an orange hi viz waistcoat and communications headphones. They then walked to the entrance into the factory and were given a long white coat, another yellow hi viz jacket and a very fetching but necessary blue hair net.

On entering the factory they were hit by the smell of hot vanilla and rice pudding. The cans whizzed by on a never ending conveyor belt with high tech wizardry. The headphones came into their own as the environment was very noisy. It was a rather hot atmosphere and with wearing two hi viz vests and a white coat it got a little warm!

Tim’s commentary throughout the tour was easy to hear, informative and interesting.
