Do you like anything to do with Cornwall? Do you like cake? Do you like reminiscing? If you have said yes to any or all of these questions, then we have the ideal book for you!
The Great Cornish Cake Bake Cook Book is available now, priced at just £6.99. It would make a great little stocking filler for Christmas this year.
The book was the idea of Judy Lawton who works for Cornwall Hospice Care as a community fundraiser. She has organised the annual Great Cornish Cake Bake Day for the last three years (6th May) and is very grateful to the huge numbers of Cornish WI’s who take part.
Judy was always hearing lovely memories around favourite recipes and decided two years ago to compile a book that captured scrummy baking delights along with treasured memories, often of the people who shared them. She soon realised that in reading these memories they would often provoke new memories for the reader. “Graham wrote about his schooldays”, said Judy, “and it brought back a memory of my schooldays and I could suddenly remember the names of my dinner ladies!”
Classic scones and boiled fruit cake recipes feature along with others such as Fat Nanna’s Dundee Cake, Eastbourne Pier Donuts and the Marmalade Thatch Cake. The Chocolate Caramel Cake was made ‘by accident’ by Debbie and is now a firm favourite in her tea room in Newquay.
The Great Cornish Cake Bake Cook Book is available for sale at Chy Noweth an Conteth, in all the Cornwall Hospice Care retail shops across the county as well as on Amazon.
Waterstones, Truro have agreed for Judy to go in to their shop on Saturday 21st October and sell the book from 10:30am. All profits from this book will go to Cornwall Hospice Care. If you’re around, why not stop in, pick up a copy and say hello to Judy?
