Why Not Enter Our 2024 Poetry Competition?

To all our budding WI poets out there, here’s your chance to have your voice heard!

The Cornwall Federation’s Blaikley Salver poetry competition is an annual event organised by our Environment and Public Affairs Sub-C0mmittee, and we’d love to see your entries.

The theme for this year’s competition is ‘River Voices’, a wide subject, stemming from our concerns about the state of our rivers,  both nationally and worldwide. Rivers are so important for us, so tell us what they mean to you – their beauty, ravages, histories, how they speak to us through the seasons, the natural world that they support and how they have inspired generations of artists, musicians, nature lovers and so many other river users through the ages.

We hope the theme inspires you to put pen to paper!

The poem can be of any length up to 32 lines.

Entries may be submitted by email to both secretary@cornwallwi.org.uk and accounts@cornwallwi.org.uk, or by post. If sending by post, please send two copies, with your name and your WI on one copy only. Postal entries should be sent to CFWI, Chy Noweth an Conteth, Truro Business Park, Threemilestone, Truro TR4 9NH.

The cost to enter is £5. If paying by BACS, please use account name: CWLL COUNTY FEDERATION OF WOMENS INST, account no: 00918970, sort code: 30-98-76, and quote reference BLAIKLEY. If paying by cheque, please make your cheque payable to CFWI and send to the address above.

The closing date for submissions is Wednesday 31 July 2024. You can find an application form here.

The Blaikley Salver will be presented to the winner at the Annual Council Meeting at the Hall for Cornwall on 23 October.
