WI Climate Ambassadors in Cornwall were delighted to be nominated for a Cornwall Sustainability Award by Alex Forrester from’Forest for Cornwall, with whom WI members have been working on the ‘WI Members Plant Trees’ initiative. We have also been helping to maintain some of the 800 newly planted trees at Penmount Crematorium in Truro. Jane Atwood, a climate ambassador from Helston WI, attended the presentations in Falmouth 6 December, and found herself collecting an award on behalf of us all! We are thrilled, and very honoured to receive the award of runner up in the category ‘ Trees for Nature and Growth – Communities and Groups 2024. It was a very strong field and in his nomination Alex listed our many other climate and environment related activities. Such as river testing, writing articles, crafting banners and attending peaceful demonstrations, which surely helped.
