Ovarian Cancer Resolution

This year there were 66,312 individual resolution selections cast by WI members and the most popular resolution from the short list,  receiving 30,240 selections, was A call to increase awareness of the subtle signs of ovarian cancer

The wording of the resolution is as follows:

A call to increase awareness of the subtle signs of ovarian cancer

Every two hours in the UK someone dies of ovarian cancer. Making sure GPs and the public know what to look for will not only ensure the early detection and treatment of this disease but transform lives today and for generations to come. NFWI calls on WI members everywhere to help increase awareness of the subtle signs of ovarian cancer.

So what happens next?

Normally, we would be inviting guest speakers to come and talk on the topic at our Spring Countdown Meeting. However, due to the Covid pandemic, this year there will be no Spring Countdown.

Pat Paxton, CFWI’s Resolution Adviser, has put together this wonderful little video which explains to you more about the resolution.

Members now have the opportunity to learn more about the issues on their own or with other members, and to discuss the resolution in their WIs before deciding how their WI should vote following the NFWI Annual Meeting on 8 June 2021. The vote will not take place at the Annual Meeting itself this year.

Other resources

The NFWI has prepared a range of resources on the shortlisted resolution that you can use to aid your WI’s decision, including:

A detailed briefing on the resolution.
A PowerPoint presentation on the topic.
A quiz to test your knowledge.

The deadline for WIs to cast their vote is 9th July 2021.
