On Saturday, CFWI held its Platinum Jubilee Garden Party at Tregrehan Garden near St Austell. After a slightly grey start, the clouds parted and it was a fabulously sunny afternoon!
Pictured here are some regally behatted (and crowned) WI members, including Rosemary Williams of Truro WI (left) who won our Jubilee Hat Parade competition – and is seen with her prize of a bottle of Pimm’s.
Everyone who came enjoyed delicious cream teas and we were all entertained by the Bodmin Silver Band, as well as Cornish Connection, a barbershop chorus who sang everything from Queen to Elton John. Some of the chorus members brought their families and it was lovely to see children playing on the grass in the walled garden.
A number of our WIs set up stalls to raise some funds – and to show off some of their clever and brilliant handiwork, from handmade cards to jewellery to baked items.
On hand were our WI Advisers with their treasure boxes, the WI Shop, a craft stall, a second-hand book stall, a splendid Jubilee raffle and much more!
We do hope everyone there had a chance to explore the beautiful gardens at Tregrehan. Some of us had never been before, but we were all delighted as we explored the wonderful glasshouse and wandered paths scented with orange blossom. And with a £3 entry fee (over the usual £10), you couldn’t go wrong!
We thank everyone who came out so support us – we just wish there had been more of you! But all in all, it was a great day.
