A Lovely Afternoon on the River Fal

Over 50 WI members boarded the Duchess of Cornwall boat in Falmouth and spent a delightful afternoon on the river. This beautiful wooden ferry was built in 2008 and was launched by Camilla, the then Duchess of Cornwall. Some members braved the breezes on the upper deck while others remained below. In any case, we were very lucky with the weather, having lovely sunshine nearly the entire afternoon.

We explored the beautiful landscape and scenic waters of the River Fal and its surrounding creeks. On our two-hour cruise, we passed Falmouth Docks, Pendennis and St Mawes Castles, Mylor Creek, Pill Creek, Trelissick Gardens, the River Fal mussel farm, the King Harry ferry and loads of lovely sailing boats and other vessels. We also passed some incredibly large and impressive houses along the route, which made us all very envious.

One member even had a go at driving the boat!

It was a thoroughly enjoyable way to spend a Sunday afternoon, and big thanks go to Margaret Lugg and other members of the CFWI Arts and Leisure Sub-Committee for organising such a successful event for us!
