Carnon Downs WI had a very busy end to 2023.
In November they were delighted to welcome their WI Adviser Barbara Corbett to their 70th anniversary celebrations in the village hall.
Barbara and members enjoyed a four-corner craft afternoon run by talented WI members leading Christmas decoration making to include: fresh foliage wreaths, felt camels for the tree, huge paper snowflakes and stars, plus Christmas trees from old books. A celebration tea followed enjoyed by all with Barbara cutting the cake which was iced to represent the cookery book of members’ recipes on sale produced to commemorate the 70 years. Many had dressed in a ’50s style to reflect the year the Carnon Downs WI was formed.
In December, members saw villagers heading to the Christmas Bazaar to browse the WI and other stalls. But it was the delicious homemade soup lunches that drew people in. It didn’t take long for the crock pots and slow cookers to empty!
The women finished off 2023 with a Christmas party where they were entertained by saxophonist Mark from the village, and enjoyed carol singing before a party tea and Secret Santa gift exchange.
