Food Safety and Hygiene

Recently, some members of our Board of Trustees underwent a day of Food Safety & Hygiene training. The goal of the training was to achieve certification for the HABC (Highfield Awarding Body for Compliance) Level 2 Award in Food Safety in Catering (QFC).

This certification will ensure that any of us preparing or handling food for you at Chy Noweth an Conteth (or around the County) have learned about the importance of food safety procedures, how to report and rectify food safety hazards, food safety legislation and best practices, good personal hygiene and reducing the risk of food contamination.

Food safety is serious business and we all took our training seriously. However, the day wasn’t all facts and figures. One of our exercises was to illustrate our least ideal food handler. One group created ‘Filthy Fred’ pictured here. What do you think of him?

Don’t worry – you won’t see Fred at any CFWI events!

  1. I think it is a good idea for the board of trustees to undertake food hygiene training. Does this mean that you will now br providing/encouraging Cornish WI’s to consider training too?

    • We have encouraged WIs to undergo food hygiene training, but it is not a requirement so, ultimately, it will be down to each WI to make that decision.
