Our recent Gardening Challenges event held in Marazion has resulted in quite a number of WI members keen to enter the West Cornwall Spring Show in March.
The Gardening Challenges event included talks by Ian Wright, former head gardener at Trengwainton and now National Trust West Country and Wales Gardens Adviser; followed by Lottie Allen, Head Gardener on St Michael’s Mount.
We then heard from Richard Morton, head gardener at Trewidden Garden, and judge at many shows, who gave an informative and entertaining talk about how to present exhibits. There were lots of materials for members to practice with while Richard and Ken Prowse, Senior Steward, were on hand to offer tips and encouragement.
The day was topped off with a fiendish garden quiz, courtesy of Juliet Turner, Gardener-in-Charge at National Trust Godolphin and adviser to CFWI’s Floral Art & Gardening sub-committee. Teresa Hancocks and Gill Keeble came out on top and won prizes of lovely St Michael’s Mount biscuits.
For anyone who would like to have a go at the West Cornwall Spring Show the schedule is available on the website of the West Cornwall Horticultural Society. The Show will be held at Marazion Community Centre from 11am to 6pm on Friday 2nd March, and 10am to 3:30pm, on Saturday 3rd March.
