Mawnan WI Joins in Beach Clean

Along with many other groups, Mawnan WI has been concerned about the amount of plastic which has found its way into our oceans, and supports events organised by others. The Little Heroes run by Cornwall Council held a beach cleaning at Helford Passage which some members joined. Although the weather was unpleasant, they persevered and collected 17kg of general waste and 8.9kg for recycling including a tyre, a broom, an old metal shovel, 5 glass bottles and 3 plastic bottles. Amongst their collection was a a considerable amount of dog waste which had been put in bags, but then had not been disposed of appropriately. Mawnan WI have organised a beach clean next month to mark World Oceans Day.

Has your WI organised a beach clean? Not only is it a great thing to do for your community, but you can tick a box off in your Centenary Passport!
