WI Resolution Selection Shortlist Results Are In!

After members sent in their selections from this year’s shortlisted resolutions, the NFWI Board of Trustees is putting forward the following resolution to the Annual Meeting in Cardiff in May:

Clean rivers for people and wildlife

Water quality in our rivers is shameful. Legally, designated bathing waters must be regularly monitored for pollution. The NFWI urges its members, the wider public, local authorities and Government to make, support and promote applications for official designated bathing sites on appropriate stretches of rivers in their area. This will be as instrumental to the clean up of rivers as it has been for water quality improvement at coastal beaches.

This year over 93,000 selections were cast, a positive increase on last year’s figures. Thank you to all who made selections!

Next steps

WIs should now consider how they wish their delegate to vote on the resolution at the NFWI Annual Meeting in Cardiff on 25 May 2023. All WIs get one vote on the resolution – for or against.

WIs may choose to give their link delegate discretion to decide how to vote after hearing the speakers and the debate at the Annual Meeting. Please ensure your WI makes it clear to your link delegate whether you are granting her discretion.

We encourage you to hold discussions about the resolution at your May meetings to allow members to consider how they wish their delegate to vote.

You may also choose to attend one of CFWI’s Resolution Roadshow events to be held as follows:

Wednesday 26 April – Millennium House, Pensilva – 7pm-9pm

Thursday 27 April – Connor Downs WI Hall – 10am-12 noon

Friday 28 April – Chy Noweth an Conteth – 10am-12 noon

These will be invaluable informative sessions for you before you meet as a WI in May to discuss the resolution.

Applications for the above events can be found here, with a closing date of 31 March.

Keep an eye on MyWI where you will soon be able to find a selection of resources to help you learn more about the resolution. And watch this space for details about an online NFWI Resolution Discussion Event to be held on Wednesday 12 April at 7pm.

If you have any questions about the NFWI Annual Meeting resolution or the resolutions process, please contact the NFWI Public Affairs Department via email (pa@nfwi.org.uk) or phone (020 7371 9300 ext.2002).
