A Very Special Jubilee Garden Party

Some months ago, the CFWI Board of Trustees was asked by the Lord Lieutenant to help with the catering at his Platinum Jubilee Garden Party to be held at Boconnoc. We were told that it was likely the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall would be there, but we were sworn to secrecy!

The day finally came on Monday and the Trustees, along with a band of fantastic WI helpers, donned their WI aprons and pitched in.

We mostly served cold drinks, tea and coffee in the huge catering marquee, alongside the professional caterers, but some of us also passed  platters of food or baskets of ice cream tubs around to the 600 guests. The guest list included the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall, who were guests of honour.

A beautiful celebration Jubilee cake was made by Dot Rogers, a member of CFWI’s Cookery and Craft sub-committee. The Lord Lieutenant made special mention of the cake and the WI in his speech, and it was much admired by everyone present.

The cake was cut by HRH The Prince of Wales, using the Lord Lieutenant’s sword. You can see a video of the cake being cut below:

A huge thank you goes out to all of the WI members who helped on the day. It was swelteringly hot, but a lovely day!
