Busy Times for Godolphin WI

Despite there being no WI meeting in August, the women of Godolphin WI have been very active.

First, they met up bright and early one morning to board the bright yellow open-top bus. The sun was shining and the day was glorious. Starting at Penzance, the bus took them to Marazion, St Ives and villages en route to The Gurnard’s Head. They arrived later than expected as their bus came face to face with another bus from the opposite direction! The lane being only wide enough for one vehicle caused something of a problem but the group’s driver manoeuvred the yellow beast with precision handling – well done, that man. After a glass of wine and a lovely lunch, they caught the bus again two hours later to continue their journey back to Penzance via Land’s End. Members report that the views are so much better from the top deck of a bus!

A week or so later, Godolphin WI President Vanessa Wyles held a summer garden party for all members and their partners. Once again the sun was shining and it was a beautiful day. There was plenty to eat and drink and everyone was relaxed and enjoying the time to catch up and chat.

Finally, this week a few of the members visited the National Dahlia Collection at the Kehelland Trust in Camborne. A lot of work has gone into moving the collection from Penzance to Camborne over the past 18 months by Louise Danks and her father. It is open to the public Wednesday and Saturday evenings each week with a charge of £5 per car. Godolphin WI tells us it’s well worth a visit to see the huge variety of beautiful and colourful plants.
