The deadline for submitting your applications to enter our Cornish Winter Fair competitions is Monday 30 October. At this point, all you need to do is fill in an application form and pay the entry fee of 20p per entry.
We are encouraging all WIs to enter the WI competitions at this year’s Cornish Winter Fair, to be held on the Royal Cornwall Showgrounds on Saturday 18 November!
There is a collaborative (group) competition, as well as some fun and simple individual classes you can enter on your own. There’s still plenty of time, but don’t forget that the closing date to submit your application form is Monday 30 October.
This year, the theme of the main collaborative competition is ‘Harvest Home’ which should give you some good scope for creativity!
The competition schedule is as follows:
To be displayed on a table 2’6” x 2’6” and to consist of the following:
- Yeast cookery – a plaited loaf
- Autumn fruit cake (recipe with your WI Secretary or see it here)
- A flower arrangement in a jug, any size (no floral foam) – accessories permitted
- An item of handicraft using macramé
- A handmade serviette
Back and side panels permitted if required. 20 marks for each item and 20 marks for general effect and interpretation.
The competitions for individual WI members are designed to be easy to enter as well as a bit of fun!
Cookery:
- An individual savoury flan (4ʺ diameter)
- An apple dessert (own choice recipe)
Handicraft:
- A fabric wreath (not to exceed 12” in diameter)
Floral Art:
- A floral arrangement (no floral foam) in a pair of Wellington boots – accessories permitted
Photography:
- A photograph of an autumn scene, 8ʺ x 10ʺ (mounted, measurements do not include mount)
Even if you haven’t entered one of our competitions (but we hope you do!), please come and visit us at the Cornish Winter Fair. It’s a free event, held entirely under cover within the Exhibition Halls at the Royal Cornwall Events Centre, in Wadebridge. It’s a great opportunity to do some Christmas shopping with stalls from over 120 traders selling crafts, gifts, food and drink. Why not bring your family? There’s plenty of free parking on site. The event runs from 10am until 5pm, and several members of the Board of Trustees will be there and would love to see you.
